How long does the sweep take?
Not every chimney is the same, but the cleaning usually takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on your chimney. Chimneys with multiple flues will take longer.
If you have a wood fire stove, the time it takes to clean does not change.
However, if we discover other issues with the chimney such as any minor or major repairs that may need to be completed, we will inform the homeowner.
Do we inspect the chimney before cleaning?
Yes, we do a level 1 inspection of the chimney before cleaning as part of the procedure.
TYPES OF CHIMNEY INSPECTIONS WE PERFORM
Inspection Level 1
Inspection Level 2
We do perform Level 3 Inspection, but those don’t usually take place unless we find major problems with the chimney. And since some type of demolition will occur in a Level 3, we will discuss the procedure with the homeowner beforehand.
How often should a chimney be cleaned?
All professional chimney sweeps agree that having your chimney inspected and cleaned at least once per year is highly recommended. Having an annual maintenance schedule for your chimney is important to preventing any creosote buildup as well as spotting cracks or other issues.
The United States does not mandate annual chimney cleaning, but in other countries, such as Denmark, annual chimney sweeps are required.
Do we go on the roof?
Sometimes, but we usually clean your chimney from the bottom.
Do we clean wood stoves?
Yes. We can clean the chimney flues from your wood fire stove.
